Tufnol Sheet
Tufnol Sheet is a unique and a very diverse product range produced by a company based in the UK. Tufnol in total produce over forty grades designed to cover all applications and have a grade suited to almost every need. Although Tufnol produce their forty grades, we specialise our focus on the three most popular grades.

How Tufnol Sheet is made:
Tufnol Sheet is made by laminating layers of phenolic silicone or epoxy impregnated sheet and then compressing under heat and pressure to form a solid sheet. The individual layering sheets can be made from impregnated paper, woven cotton or woven glass fibre. The process begins with a cover or outer sheet and then further layers of the impregnated sheets are stacked with each layer rotated through ninety degrees to reduce distortion until the desired quantity of layers is achieved for the required thickness and then a further and final cover sheet. The number of individual layers determines the final sheet thickness once the sheet has been compressed, this takes skill and experience to achieve successfully.

Further details of Tufnol Sheet:
Although there are some exceptions, Tufnol Sheet is generally manufactured and available in sheet sizes of 1220mm x 1220mm and in general, the range has very good low moisture absorption as well as excellent component stability. Tufnol Sheet is easily machined and the finer grades offer the best suitability for the machining of finer, more intricate components. Machinists are reminded that it is a laminated product and the design of components need to take this into account.

Because this material is made from layers of material that are laminated under pressure, the tolerance on thickness across the whole sheet can vary slightly this is reduced due to experience and skilful manufacturing but still has to be taken into account.
